Art As Therapy

Making time to create keepsakes together.

Art by Hamish Watson

Over the past few weeks Hamish’s health has been continuing to decline and sadly he has transitioned into the next level of palliative care here at home. With his family and friends visiting each day I felt inspired to help Hamish create some artworks as keepsakes for us all. We sat together for several hours creating these digital artworks inspired by some of the things he has expressed interest in over the years and if you look carefully you will see Hamish in every one of his artworks.

The Dolphins and Whales -Inspired by his visit to SeaWorld in 2015, where we swam with the Dolphins courtesy of the Make A Wish foundation.

A true artist is not one who is inspired, but one who inspires others.

The Boy in the moon

The Galaxy and the Full moon – Inspired by our fascination with the full moon and why his seizure activity would often increase around the full and/or new moons. He also loves to watch the light show from his special projector on the ceiling at night and would often indicate in his own way that he’d like his blinds to be left open at night so he could see the full moon from his bed.

Paintings have a life of their own that derives from the painter’s soul.

A Mothers Love – Artwork by Natalie Karen

The great artists of the past were aware that human life is full of chaos and suffering. But they had a remedy for this. And the name of that remedy was ‘beauty’. The beautiful work of art brings consolation in sorrow and affirmation in joy. It shows human life to be worthwhile.
